Facebook Newsfeed Apocalypse

Wait… Facebook is going to make a change the newsfeed… What? I cannot handle this, what are we going to do!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

As panic happens all across the nation about Facebook changing up the newsfeed, we at In Their Face Marketing welcome the change. We have been developing a few tweaks to our overall social strategy and will be implementing them for our clients starting next week. If you are not our client, I have listed a few things that you can do to make it through the impending Facebook newsfeed apocalypse.

1.) Higher Quality Content. In the past, it was vital to have a consistent stream of content to make sure you were showing up in the newsfeed. This was a breeding ground for weak content that made you feel good to check the “post to facebook” box on your daily to-do checklist. Weak content from this point forward will kill your Facebook strategy. It’s time to hone in those story telling skills!

2.) Do NOT Click/Engagement Bait. Facebook has a certain set of skills. If you are baiting engagement with posts that ask for likes, comments, shares, or clicks, Facebook will find you and kill you. Well, maybe not kill you dead but they will smash any chance of you getting organic reach.

3.) “See First” Option. A majority of people don’t even know this function exists. It is now your job to educate them and hope that you are cool enough for them to care about your content to see it first thing when jumping on to Facebook. But remember, you will be competing with every single brand on planet Earth to win the right to be seen first, so you better be creating massive value.

4.) Paid Advertising. You are behind the curve if you are not using Facebook ads. Since the organic reach of brands is about to be slashed, I am guessing that there will be huge increase in Facebook advertisers. The more advertisers, the less space for ads, the more expensive ads get. It will be interesting to see how the cost of ads changes over the next few months.

5.) Video & Streaming. Video gets more engagement than text and images. Live video gets more engagement than prerecorded video. Jump in and do it, like today! It is super scary and everyone feels uncomfortable their first time but you will get better and it will get easier. You never know, you may become the next star discovered on social media.

Don’t worry so much, Facebook will make another change next week and Instagram will too. The fact of the matter is, if you are creating value and can translate that into a good story, you will win. The evolution of digital marketing moves fast and it is a good idea if you have a team that has your back. If you don’t have a solid support system, get one! Don’t be afraid to change your strategy.

If you have questions or thoughts, I’d like to hear them! Wait, was that just engagement bait?
